Busy Busy Holidays

I have been horrible about blogging over the holidays. I guess since it has been the baby's first holiday I was focused on that. That is the only excuse that I have. The holidays were great for us and for Abby. She had a good time but did not really get the whole opening presents. She really liked the paper and the boxes. She played with those way more than the toys at first. We are kind of lucky right now because we did not have to perpetuate the whole Santa myth this first year because she is little still. We could have all her presents under the tree before Christmas morning and she did not know the difference. That won't be the case next year, so we enjoyed it while we could this year. There is so much to tell about the holidays that it is going to be hard to sum up in one blog. We had 2 "Christmases" on Christmas Eve. We went to my mom and dad's and opened presents with my immediate family. Then that evening we went to Aunt Brenda's house and had Christmas with my mom's side of the family. On Christmas Day, we went to Eric's parents and opened presents with Eric's immediate family and then we had dinner with them. That evening, Eric's aunt, uncle and cousins came over and we opened a couple of presents and had dessert with them. The day after Christmas we were supposed to go to Columbus and have Christmas with my Dad's side of the family, but the weather was so bad here in Toledo that we did not make that one. However, my mom and dad brought home the presents for the baby and she opened those yesterday. So, she had lots of opening to. She was overwhelmed with all of the presents, but she really liked them all. Eric and I decided that we were going to ration out the presents and give them to her a present or two at a time. That way she has something new to play with every couple of weeks. Otherwise, she will not really fully enjoy them all. One of my favorite gifts were the little Uggs that Aunt Becky got her. I don't even have a pair of those stylin' boots yet. However, we want to thank everyone who gave her a wonderful present. She loves it and we really appreciate it. Puke smells really great at 2am

The last couple of days have been really great at our house. Abby (now 8 months old) has gotten her first REAL sickness (besides just a cold). For the last 2 days she has thrown up almost everything she eats. The last 2 nights in the middle of the night she has thrown up 2 or 3 times. SO at 2 in the morning we are changing crib sheets and trying to change pajamas and calm her down so she goes back to sleep. We have taken her to the doctor and he said if she continues to throw up she might get too dehydrated and we might have to take her into the hospital for an IV. The dr. was actually so worried he called us this morning to check on her. He said if she throws up one time today I am to take her directly to see him. Don't call, don't make an appt. just come in, he will see her and determine if she needs to go. So, as you can see these are really hard days for Eric and I. It is really tough to watch your baby be sick and not really be able to do anything for her. I just sit and hold her and cuddle with her hoping that it makes her feel at least a little bit better. She has been sleeping alot and I think that is good to help her body get better. Yesterday Eric stayed home with her, but I left work early and came home and today I am home with her. Eric was so amazing. He is such an amazing Daddy. She threw up 3 or 4 times for him yesterday and everytime he just cleaned her up and held her and did what needed to be done without complaint. I am blessed, but even more, Abby is blessed to have such a daddy who will willingly clean up her puke without giving it a second thought. Thanks Eric for being that wonderful and that good of a father. We are hoping by tomorrow she will be much better. These are the days I wish I did not have to work, but could just sit home with her all day every day until she felt better. It breaks my heart for her to hurt and be sick. So, please keep Abby in your prayers. SHe has not thrown up since about 4 this morning so this is a good sign. She drank some Pedialyte and has kept it down for about 2 hours, so yeah, hydration! She is laying down for a nap right now which is how I am able to write a blog. So please, keep Abby in your prayers and we will see many of you soon for the holidays.

Birthday Party Fun!

Today Abby went to her first birthday party ever. Our friends Jason and Amanda have 2 sons, Tyler and Carter. Tyler's birthday was today, Carter's is tomorrow. So Abby went to the birthday party with lots of other kids. The party was at the indoor water park here in Toledo. She loved it and got to swim a little. Daddy got in the pool with her and she splashed and played with the other little ones. There were lots of kids about her age there. She could not stop looking around at all of the people and the action. It was really loud and of course warm. I did not swim. Eric rode all of the indoor slides and had so much fun hanging out with the other dads there. However, ended up really motion sick from the swirling toilet bowl water slide (he sometimes has problems with spinning rides). By the time the party was over, she was over stimulated and fell asleep on the way home. She slept for over 2 hours. She had a really good time at her first party, and now (I'm sure) she can't wait until her 1 year old birthday party in April. Here are some really fun pictures from her first party.

Funtimes at Aberdeen

Yesterday my parents and Aunt Brenda came into town and we went Christmas shopping for Abby. We got all kinds of things that I think she will really like. Then we all went to dinner. Abby was so good and we had such a good time with her. Also, she said "Ma-Ma" yesterday for the first time. And she repeated it a couple of times and said it again this morning. So that makes me happy. She is also on the verge of crawling. We have several cute pictures of her on all fours looking like she is trying really hard to crawl. She actually scooted herself across the living room this week and opened the cabinet at the bottom of the tv and was trying to get stuff out of it. This was our sign that we needed to start childproofing the house. Wow- she is almost mobile. I can't believe that.

We love Rudolph!!!

Last night we went to Children's Wonderland. It is a really neat place that is only open at Christmas time. They have a lot of animated displays. Some of the displays have been around for over 40 years. They also have a Rudolph that walks around and hugs the kids. Abby and I have never been to Children's Wonderland, but Eric grew up going there. So Abby, Eric, Jan, Frank and I went last night. As soon as we walked in, Abby was immediately enthralled with all of the lights and the moving figures. She absolutely loved the Rudolph whenever he came around. She would laugh and smile and try to grab him. It was so much fun. They even have a train to ride there, but she will have to ride that next year because she was just a little too small still this year. Here are some great pictures of Abby at the wonderland.

Thankfulness

Being as Thanksgiving just passed, I have been meaning to post an entry about what I am thankful for. As I pray with Abby each night, we thank God for the blessings in our life, like our family and a beautiful place to live and good food to eat. And as we pray it makes me think of the things in my life that I am really thankful for. I feel so very blessed. As I look into Abby's eyes and we pray together I realize that she is such a blessing to Eric and I. She is the most delightful, happy, easygoing, fun baby ever created by God (and Eric and I were blessed enough to be given this precious gift to take care of and love and raise up to honor God). I am so very thankful for Abigail Nichelle Polesovsky. I can hardly remember what life was like without her, she has added so much joy and fulfillment into Eric and I's lives. I am also thankful for my very dear and wonderful husband. It has been a happy and fun 2 1/2 years together. The time has gone so fast. I am lucky to have a husband who is such a tremendous father to our daughter. When Abby sees him, her face lights up and she gives a big grin and puts her arms out for daddy to pick her up. She knows how much he loves her and she loves him right back with all her heart. She is daddy's little girl. Her first words are DA-DA. She yells it all day long at the top of her lungs. We are also lucky enough to have an absolutely tremendous extended family. Mimi, Grandpa, Oma, Opa, Granny, have all been such a wonderful blessing to us. We don't know what we would have done without them. They love us and Abby so much and are such a help to us. Abby has such a wonderful heritage in all of them. Not to mention her wonderful Aunts and Uncles, and cousins, and friends. such a rich and wonderful heritage is unique and not something to be taken for granted. So, during this, our first holiday season with Abby, we are thankful for so many things and we want to tell you all how much we love you and how thankful we are to each and every one of you.

The big 8 month old little girl!

Abby turned 8 months old yesterday. She is getting so big. She says "Da-Da" now and and waves "Hi" and "Bye" She loves to stand up and she scoots around the room on her butt. She has been sick the last couple of days. So yesterday, Eric stayed home with her, and today I am staying home with her. She has had a bad cough and she is losing her voice. I did not realize that my little baby could lose her voice. But she has been losing her voice (just when she started getting her voice.) However, she has been better today, I think. SO tomorrow she should be good enough to go back to daycare. Here is Abby with Daddy yesterday (still in her pajamas- she stayed in them all day.). What a fun day- pajammas all day long.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

Abby had her very first picture taken with Santa Claus. Here in Toledo, the Bass Pro Shop is doing free 4x6 pictures with Santa. It is not the best Santa picture ever, but it was free and we did not want to pay lots of money if she was going to be terrified. We were kind of scared of how she would react. She is just beginning to get into the stranger/danger mode where she knows that people are strangers or loved ones. However, she acted fine with Santa. She grabbed his beard (but did not tug, just held on. Abby wore her dress with Santa on it to go visit Santa. She looked so cute. We took some more pictures of her in just her dress playing with Daddy on the floor. Here she is with Santa and playing with Daddy.

Babies first holiday (continued)

On Thanksgiving day, we all went to my parents house and the whole family was there. Abby got to spend quality time with her 2 first cousins (Isabelle and Grace). She had so much fun with them. She ate mashed potatoes and she loved them. She played and played with her cousins, and she was worn out by the time we got in the car to drive back home. Abby loved seeing the family and got held and spoiled all day. I actually think she was ready to go home and relax all day on Friday with just mommy and daddy. Here are some really cute pics of Abby and her cousins. I almost forgot to tell the biggest thing that happened on Thanksgiving day. Abby got her first blood drawing boo boo of her 8 month life. She was sitting on the changing table and I was brushing her hair. She is at the stage where she gives no notice, she just lunges for things she wants. So I was brushing her hair and she decided that she wanted her show that was sitting on the edge of the changing table so she lunged for it. I was taken off guard and could not catch her in time and she hit her left eye on the edge of the table. It started to bleed and she started to cry. I felt so bad, I thought for sure it was going to swell up and turn all black and blue, but really there was just a little scratch. ( I have included a close up of the eye just a few hours after the incident ocurred and you can see there is really just a scratch there.) However, Eric harassed me endlessly for a couple of days. She is none the worse for wear though, so all is well. Kids rebound so quickly- good thing for us parents.
